At the official announcement of the agreement, Balázs Hankó, Minister for Culture and Innovation, emphasized:
“Hungarian classical music ensembles represent outstanding artistic value not only at home, but also as internationally recognized institutions of excellence.”
This long-term support provides a unique opportunity for our orchestra to strengthen its national and international presence, and to implement its artistic ambitions in a sustainable manner.
The funding system, announced in Gödöllő, lays the foundation for long-term, predictable operations—a crucial requirement in the world of classical music, where a concert tour, a series, or a major artistic collaboration often takes years to prepare. From now on, we are able to plan on the kind of stable basis we have awaited for decades.
Under the agreement, the 11 participating organizations—including the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra—will each receive at least the same level of annual funding as in recent years, with a total of HUF 8.8 billion to be allocated among them. This support ensures not only financial security, but also a real sense of direction for the future—whether in talent development, international engagements, or reaching broader audiences at home.
“This funding system is of historic significance,” said István Várdai, cellist and artistic director of the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra. “It provides stability, while affirming the long-awaited vision for the future of the Hungarian classical music scene.”
The agreement confirms that Hungary not only preserves its classical music heritage, but is committed to building its future upon it. We are grateful for the support, and we remain dedicated to ensuring that the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra continues to represent Hungarian musical excellence on both national and international stages.
