Five concerts in the magnificent Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy, featuring the ensemble’s world-class Artistic Director alongside six outstanding soloists from the forefront of the European music scene.
The Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra will conclude the 2024/25 season with a special musical journey. At the concert on May 14, three unconventional works will be performed: two compositions by Sándor Veress and a reimagined version of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition for strings and electronics.
“It’s important to recognize that professional musicians who are accepted into the best orchestras have essentially been practicing since the age of eight to such an extent that, by the time they officially begin working, they’ve already ‘prepaid’ the workload that in other professions typically takes decades to accumulate. In this light, it would be reasonable to expect that once their careers reach maturity, they should be able to play in an ensemble that offers both professional and existential stability,” said cellist István Várdai, Artistic Director of the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, in our interview
To mark the occasion, we've invited a special guest to our birthday concert, presenting a program that could be summed up in a single phrase: modernity made accessible.
One of today’s most distinguished cello virtuosos and the Artistic Director of the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, István Várdai, has been awarded a prestigious state honour.

Lucienne Renaudin Vary is twenty-six years old, and while she is not Maurice André—an artist who was truly one of a kind—she nonetheless embodies that same ease, naturalness, brightness, and playfulness that makes the trumpet truly worth playing.
