On the third concert of our “Passion Woven from Sounds” subscription series, our guest soloist, Cosima Soulez Lariviere, delivered a virtuosic, taut yet flowing performance within a framework provided by us, the orchestra, and the soloist, where both parties felt completely at ease.
In the string chamber orchestra arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto, we did not feel the absence of winds or percussion; on the contrary, the more intimate, personal, and refined chamber setting seemed to enhance the romantic expression of the work. After the first movement, the audience’s thunderous applause, shouts of “bravo!”, and exclamations of “that was beautiful” clearly showed that they could not contain their overflowing emotions – it was impossible to wait until the end of the piece; they simply had to celebrate earlier.
Thank you, Cosima – truly, the entire performance was dazzlingly beautiful!
What a joy that we did not have to say goodbye immediately, as the magic was repeated the next day in Székesfehérvár, once again before a full house. The charming, enjoyable concert-opening Rachmaninov excerpt was not missed, nor was the orchestral performance of the Schubert string quartet that filled the second half of the programme.
