From Drama to Harmony

The three greatest masters of the Viennese Classical era come together in a single concert – presented, however, in an order that departs from convention. We open with the sweeping dramatic force of an overture by Ludwig van Beethoven, followed by the Symphony in E-flat major, K. 543, one of the three great symphonies by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The evening concludes with the Sinfonia Concertante by Joseph Haydn, a work that posterity has placed among the finest examples of the Classical style. This rich and varied programme is brought to life by distinguished guest artists. Lucas Macías Navarro, who has appeared on the world’s leading stages as both oboist and conductor, will be heard in Budapest in both roles. István Várdai, internationally acclaimed cellist and artistic director of our orchestra, joins the performance of the Sinfonia Concertante in a finely attuned collaboration. Notable for its rare instrumental combination, the concerto also features soloists Mariam Abouzahra and Bence Bogányi, bringing violin and bassoon into vivid and expressive dialogue.
