Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra
Opening the House of Hungarian Music’s 2025/26 classical season — and fittingly so — one of Hungary’s most prestigious ensembles, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, returns to the concert hall. The evening will be led by Mátyás Antal, a true doyen of Hungary’s classical scene, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year.
As always, the audience will be guided through the programme with engaging commentary, provided on this occasion by the evening’s host, Szilvia Becze.
The programme begins with Mozart’s miniature masterpiece, the Adagio and Fugue in C minor, written in the spirit of Bach. This is followed by Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto, a dazzlingly virtuosic work in which the trumpet plays an unusually prominent role alongside the solo piano. Performing the concerto are two internationally acclaimed Hungarian musicians: József Balog on piano and Gábor Boldoczki on trumpet. To close the concert, the orchestra performs Schubert’s Symphony No. 5, a work rich in Mozartian influence, composed when the young genius was just nineteen years old.
